Live Music on a Bus? Ludo’s Delivers Intimate Magic!

Ludo’s bar and music venue, Blue House Yard, 5 River Park Rd, London

Ludo’s Pub in North London presents an intimate and unique gig experience on a double-decker bus

Curated by Turtle Tempo’s Dan Sheed, Live Music on a Bus at Ludo’s does exactly what it says on the tin. Attendees take their seats on the top level of the bus to enjoy a pick and mix of emerging talent. The latest instalment included appearances from Will Pope, Azu Yeché, Holly Wilks, and Poesy.

Will Pope’s bus set.

Yorkshire folk artist Will Pope opened the evening. “It’s not often you play music on a bus” he proclaimed between a set of heartfelt folk tunes. His performance was a highlight of the evening thanks to his enchanting guitar melodies which echoed through the small space. Despite the understated nature of his music, Will commanded the space. He’s certainly one to keep an eye on for fans of Hozier and Noah Kahan.

Next up was soulful singer songwriter, Azu Yeché. His charisma and stage presence were an utter delight. Every song was delivered with infectious enthusiasm that won over the whole crowd. Despite battling a chest infection, his vocals were pitch perfect and a highlight of his performance. Many of his songs addressed themes of self worth and Azu’s unbridled sense of confidence truly bolstered this message.

The penultimate act of the night was indie pop songstress, Holly Wilks. I was utterly blown away by her lyricisism. While at times the soft vocal delivery made them difficult to hear, her lyrics were some of the best of the night. Touching on themes of mental health with a poetic bluntness, Holly vocalises what many may feel but are too afraid to say. Her fearless approach to vulnerability make her songs truly stand out.

The show was closed out by self-proclaimed rock siren, Poesy. Originally hailing from Canada and now based in London, Poesy’s has an ethereal and timeless quality. Tackling everything from being cheated on to struggling with remaining present, Poesy’s songs are mature reflections on love and life, always delivered with assertive grace. Her vocals are truly showstopping and her stage presence magnetic.

The fantastic selection of artists and the unique setting made for a truly memorable experience. The atmosphere was intimate and cosy. The crowd was friendly and enthusiastic made up of indie music fans, musicians, as well as the friends and families of the performers.

It is worth noting that the gigs are expected to move into the courtyard as the weather gets warmer. While this move undercuts the novelty appeal of the event, the well-curated lineup is sure to keep music fans coming throughout the summer months. If you’re looking to discover emerging independent artists in a unique setting, Live Music on a Bus is a must-visit.
